David Moyes has had his odds chopped after significant sums were lumped on him. If Fergie has any say I reckon he'd choose Mourhino. It'll be an interesting close-season!

I thought there might be something in this that's why I posted it. Usually with this sort of thing the club denies the rumours immediately; the fact that they didn't spoke volumes. Nonetheless, I am still surprised on one level because he just doesn't strike me as the sort of person who could enjoy retirement. But, realistically, it is the right decision because he's 71 years-old. I know what my body feels like, I can't imagine what you feel like by the time you're his age and you find yourself on the training ground in sub-zero temperatures.

Due to MUFC being a plc they are legally bound to announce anything that may affect stock value so once the whispers started they had to announce.

Add to that the fact his missus has now got his hip operation in her "isn't time to retire?" arsenal......well, it was bound to happen at some point. Jose and Ronnie and Moyes and Rooney staying. Very interesting close season awaits!

I'm in the David Moyes camp. Not that I think he's a good manager, not by a long shot, but the bookies always have the edge with these things and he is still the front runner.

I'm no ABU, far, far from it, but I agreee with Irre, this is the end of an era and may well see Man United slip out of the big time for a while.

I think Moyes has done incredibly well with Everton, considering he doesn't seem to get to play with silly money with new purchases and all that. I think he's got as much out of his players as he could. He works well with what he's got. Managing United would be the real test of his credentials though.

Maybe there'll be a Liverpool resurgence, a new era of domination and glory!

He's never won anything - it doesn't matter that he's kept Everton up there & steady when other smaller clubs have won stuff in that time.
He's got zero European experience & no track record of being able to cope with 'squeaky bum time'.

Just to reiterate my point,
Mourinho & Ronaldo would be class & the only thing that could possibly replace Taggart & keep a winning momentum.
Surely the board have something good up their sleeves - not David Moyes.

I agree with you on Moyes. He's done remarkable work at Everton but not sure how that translates into managing world class players and, as you say, European competition. I could just about live with his appointment if Ole was his right hand man and Scholes, Giggs and Neville are drafted in to his coaching team.

Moyes has never seen a world-class player in one of his teams, let alone bought one! I suppose you could say Rooney was one, and Fellaini at a stretch, but I don't personally see him as being much different to Allardyce.

It seems inevitable that Mourinho will go to Chelsea, and Bobby Charlton stating that his behaviour is unsuitable for United didn't exactly do him any favours. Personally, I would take Klopp all day long, if you could get him. His achievements at Dortmund are superb, he's German so he's bound to speak perfect English, he knows Kagawa already, and he might bring Lewandowski with him.

But you'll probably get long ball Moyes instead!
