Many years ago in a land far far away we come under mortar fire. Now the area we were taking shelter in was a grave yard. So anyway bits and pieces got disturbed and like a miracle this skull appeared on top of the ground, so the zombie was dead. To celebrate the death of said creature the skull was cleaned off and mounted on a jeep. Thus we had a zombies head gleaming white as a trophy. A picture was taken and still resides as far as I know in a companies hall on the wall.

I have to confess that I haven't given the question of surviving a zombie apocalypse much consideration, but I would have thought that the most important thing was to stockpile as many tea-bags as possible. Nearly everyone likes a nice cup of tea, and I'm fairly sure that would include zombies, so...just make 'em a nice cup of tea and they'll soon calm down...

Okay. Take Pete's car, go around mum's, go in, deal with Phillip, grab mum, go to Liz's, pick her up, bring her back here, have a nice cup of tea and wait for all this to blow over. -- Shaun of the Dead

So, is 'zombies' a real threat? Its wierd as I saw this thread this morning, then a car pulled in front of me with a big sticker covering whole rear window saying 'keep calm and slay zombies' - this seems like a sign that i need to take this seriously. I wish id known yesterday as was buying a petrol strimmer, and would have got the larger cc engine with the brushcutter (blade) attachment. I thought this would be good for killing zombies as you have more range than a chainsaw, so maybe wont get so much splashback with blood and fragments. A main concern for me is mess as i am squemish and also dont like the thought of being covered in blood at the end of a long day - especially if I cant have a bath/shower every day.
Also, if i get zombie blood in my eye, or absorbed through skin, will i become infected? Or from sitting on a toilet seat?
also, do they only crave human brains? If not then a freezer full of brains from a butchers might be good - especially when faced with a crowd, as you could cause a feeding frenzy and slip away unnoticed.
These are all very good questions, grasshopper.
Although I'm not an expert per se, I can offer you my sincerest opinion on the issues you flag:
This may be a sign. Most definitely...law of attraction and all that guff.
Petrol strimmer - good weapon of choice? I thought I had already made myself abundantly clear re 'noise considerations' when choosing zombie slaying equipment? Tbh, this is a classic 'school-boy' error and will probably just serve to get you eaten far quicker than is necessary. In fact, just reading it makes me want to bite you. Amateur.
"I am squemish". I'll be brutally honest; you're not going to enjoy the coming zombie apocolypse. Time to man-up.
Infection routes. To be fair, it really depends on the nature of the epidemic as to the why's and the wherefors and we won't really have any firm and fast answers re contamination until it all kicks off and people...well, get infected. A good way to be sure, is to monitor the reaction of your friends and relatives re possible routes of infection (see above re 'dispensing' with irksome family pets and 'lesser' relatives). Just an idea.
However, I'd say you'd be wise to avoid blood in the eye, if at all possible. Just as it would be a good idea to avoid drinking it, getting it into any fresh wounds (this includes minor papercuts) or sharing needles with the recently deceased.
As for toilet seats...these aren't really a good idea during non-apocalypse times let alone apocalypse times (see above list of "dos" and "donts"). Discretion and disposable seat covers are advised here.
Zombies - is it all about 'human' brains? This is a very good question. As you will see from my earlier posts, we now know why zombies choose to eat what they do. What we aren't yet clear on, is whether there is any distinction between human brainage and the brainage of our furry/feathered friends. Again, I draw your attention to my suggestion re family pets, as above. If it's a choice between you and your beloved gerbil, I think that choice is going to be a fairly easy one. If it's not, then you are a bit of a cretin and deserve everything you get.
Be sure and update this thread, electricity allowing, should you find the answer to that last one.
Cheers.

This is a very good idea. If it is true that the recently deceased may retain memories of their lives, as well as your 'secret' hideout, then the sight of a freshly severed noggin, proudly displayed about your residence is bound to put the willies up them.
And if there is one thing we know for sure about zombies, it's that they don't like it up 'em.
However, you mention mounting said head on a vehicle. As has already been covered at some length here, I think it would be wise to avoid 'noisy' machinery during apocalypse if at all possible.
Perhaps if it's one of those new-fangled hybrid jobs maybe...but tbh, that's just going to make your fresh kill look a bit shit.
Good idea though.

I like your spunk, young lady. And I can assure you it's the first time I've ever said that.
Do bear in mind my list above re people not generally being reasonable, dead or alive, however.
Be sure and update us here if you do have success with this.

Yeah, and the second synchronicity is that you used the word spunk when describing a female. the day before yesterday someone i know called a woman 'spunky' (in the context of being 'a hearty lass' type thing) and i thought how long it had been since id heard that word - and never before to describe a female! (btw I hope quietgirl doesnt offer the zombies her best china)
okay, strimmer bad, I get. I was thinking really about having as much weaponry at my disposal as poss, to cover all scenarios ie if there were a full-on zombie attack then all out noisy killing machines might be handy. I had an idea for a great weapon, and turns out it is possible and someone dunnit on youtube already, a bit thirsty but still worth consideration I feel:
Im only squemish when it comes to living people, so maybe undead is not too bad, i have a feeling will be quite fun actually. That said, i did feel sorry for the zombie lady in the vid, and actually wanted them to feed her some brains, so maybe i need to work on being less compassionate.
Until the infection route issue is sorted I will wear protctive clothing.
Thanks for your help - and yes, I will update the thread as things unfold. Hopfully youtube will stay up so we can share zombie kill vids too.
If the "nice cup of tea" approach fails, the guys in my avvy would be able to sort out a zombie apocalypse, no problem!
Mandy
Who they be, Mandy?
They be Sharpe (played by Sean Bean) and his Chosen Men, abs. I'm something of a Sharpe fan, me. I wanted to put up a pic of my own real-life Chosen Man, aka Mr Quietgirl, but he won't let me, so Sharpe & Co will just have to do!
They could definitely see off a zombie horde! Alas, Mr Quietgirl probably couldn't, although he would make them a lovely cup of tea!
Erm, I sound utterly cracked, don't I?
