The NHS is embarking on its biggest and most wide-ranging outsourcing of services so far by inviting companies to bid for £1.2bn in contracts to provide frontline cancer treatment in district hospitals and care for the terminally ill.

The deals could see the private sector delivering all cancer and end-of-life treatment for children and adults across Staffordshire and Stoke on Trent. This will involve diagnosis and treatment such as radiology, radiotherapy, breast screening, chemotherapy, nursing and surgery for patients in hospitals, hospices and at home.

Can't wait to get my check in the post when my shares are sold. All that tax I have paid over the years must add up to a considerable amount by now.
I'll treat myself to a private health care plan, I think, Beats getting euthanased by the NHS because I am no longer economically viable.

This is definitely coming, we're already seeing this being proposed.

for a number of years now the NHS has been slowly degraded and is quickly becoming a source of basic/emergency care only for those who have no other option (ie the poor). I can see a time soon when people with no money will simply be left to die, just supplied with painkillers, unless they can stump up the cash for the "deluxe healthcare option", some may say we are almost there already.

At the moment, unless threat of death is imminent, patients can wait weeks for an xray and months for a scan - I believe you can jump these queues already by using private companies for body scans or of course a private hospital if you carry PMI. A taste of what's to come methinks . With all the cuts and the drain of PFI, plus privatisation of GP surgeries it will only get worse. How long before employees/employers have to enrol in a healthcare scheme like the USA if they require anything over and above emergency care?

This what was desired by the twisted amongst us: they would happily pay more than they would have done for the same service, provided that somebody is in agony and an' afford it.

"Well, I am sorry" *sniker* *slurp* "But they should've been more prudent, or at least their parents should have" *swell chest* "We looked ahead* *chuckle* "survival of the fittest, y'know" *trouser fidget*

MPs have voted through a controversial measure that gives England's health secretary powers to close local hospitals, even if they are performing well.
