In the 1930's depression of America a law was passed called Executive Order 6102 which basically criminalised the possession of monetary gold by any individual, partnership, association or corporation.

Can you own bullion in the UK or just 22 carat and below?

You can get 24 carat gold in the UK no problem, the best place to import from, though, is Germany. It used to be possible to import silver from Guernsey and duck VAT, but this is no longer possible.

I guess what is stated in the OP is a risk, though. I don't really view it as any riskier than having your money in a bank, though.

After whats happened in cyprus I'd say a lot less risky! :)

Lets face it even cash can be worthless at some point but then there's also a point at which gold is worthless too.

I suppose the question you have to ask is at what point do you want to be 'cashing in' gold and for what reasons and how much of it would you need for such a scenario?

It definitely was carried out, but you'd obviously have to be pretty stupid back in 1933 to just turn up and obey the order. It used to be illegal to keep television programmes on video for more than 30 days, I think this might still be the case.andyh wrote:

No idea! It's very hard to say precisely what will occur in the mid-term future. I honestly wouldn't like to make a prediction, except to say that I can't see any other possible scenario than the pound and euro being devalued. It's not impossible that the dollar could survive, but that would seem to be highly unlikely. Beyond that, God knows what will happen.

I keep a money belt of sovereigns. Thats all I'll need for what I have in mind I'd say.

EDIT: Thats for if TSHTF so to speak. Boat carriage. It won't be good for anything else after that point.

If TS doesn't HTF then it's going to be 100% digital but thats a whole new nightmare.

Look on the bright side, at least you'll be able to trade your sovereigns for some digital currency...

What did america do with this gold?

"Section 1. For the purposes of this regulation, the term "hoarding" means the withdrawal and withholding of gold coin, gold bullion or gold certificates from the recognized and customary channels of trade."

So the us government wanted to trade with the gold,I have a suspicion that some might of made it's way to Europe, maybe to some incestuous rapist bloke dressed in leather shorts called hitler?

Theres never been a proper audit afaik, then theres what happened on 9/11 when all that gold disappeared too along with any media mention of it other than the once or twice, forever then forgotten.

Some useful info- sketti you asked for some not long back, here it is.
Looks like you need to be trading tens of thousands of quids worth for it to be worthwhile if you expect to be trading it for profit.

How much gold is there in the world?

Imagine if you were a super-villain who had taken control of all the world's gold, and had decided to melt it down to make a cube. How long would the sides be? Hundreds of metres, thousands even?

Actually, it's unlikely to be anything like that size.

Warren Buffett, one of the world's richest investors, says the total amount of gold in the world - the gold above ground, that is - could fit into a cube with sides of just 20m (67ft).

But is that all there is? And if so, how do we know?

A figure that is widely used by investors comes from Thomson Reuters GFMS, which produces an annual gold survey.

Their latest figure for all the gold in the world is 171,300 tonnes - which is almost exactly the same as the amount in our super-villain's imaginary cube.

“Gold gets dug out of the ground in Africa, or someplace. Then we melt it down, dig another hole, bury it again and pay people to stand around guarding it. It has no utility. Anyone watching from Mars would be scratching their head”

“What motivates most gold purchasers is their belief that the ranks of the fearful will grow. During the past decade that belief has proved correct. Beyond that, the rising price has on its own generated additional buying enthusiasm, attracting purchasers who see the rise as validating an investment thesis. As “bandwagon” investors join any party, they create their own truth — for a while“.

Historically, no single individual has been permitted to own more than 15% of Reuters, under the first of the Reuters Principles, which states, "Reuters shall at no time pass into the hands of any one interest, group or faction."

Just reminded me of something I read while the forum was down, an article about the use of gold in circuit boards. It's not cost effective to extract it so gold has now become a disposable commodity. There goes any illusion of a gold based currency.
If you have any issues with the forum or it's members, for a speedier response, rather than pressing the report button, please post them here: sanctumzone.co.uk/forum/Forum-Projects--...scussion-thread.html

Anunnaki (Sumerian: “those who came down from the heavens”; Old testament Hebrew, Anakeim, Nefilim, Elohim; Egyptian: Neter), an advanced civilization from the tenth planet in our solar system, splashed down in the Persian gulf area around 432,000 years ago, colonized the planet, with the purpose of obtaining large quantities of gold. Some 250,000 years ago, the recovered documents tell us, their lower echelon miners rebelled against the conditions in the mines and the Anunnaki directorate decided to create a creature to take their place...

The United States Bullion Depository, often known as Fort Knox, is a fortified vault building located adjacent to Fort Knox, Kentucky, used to store a large portion of United States official gold reserves and occasionally other precious items belonging or entrusted to the federal government.

The United States Bullion Depository holds 4,578 metric tons (5,046.3 short tons) of gold bullion (147.2 million oz. troy). This is roughly 3 percent of all the gold ever refined throughout human history. Even so, the depository is second in the United States to the Federal Reserve Bank of New York's underground vault in Manhattan, which holds 7,000 metric tons (7,716 tons) of gold bullion (225.1 million oz. troy), some of it in trust for foreign nations, central banks and official international organizations...

No signs of life have been detected at a gold mining site in a mountainous area of Tibet more than 24 hours after a massive landslide buried 83 workers, Chinese state media said today.

The state-run China Central Television said more than 2,000 rescuers have been dispatched to Lhasa's Maizhokunggar county to search for the buried.

About 2 million cubic metres of mud, rock and debris swept through the area as the workers were resting and covered an area measuring around 1.5 square miles...
