100 Million Americans Without Jobs:

www.businessinsider.com/100-million-amer...-without-jobs-2012-5

If the Americans using food stamps constituted a country, they would be the 27th largest nation in the world:

www.thestar.com/news/world/uselection/ar...on-continues-to-grow

Bailout Total: $29.616 Trillion Dollars:

www.ritholtz.com/blog/2011/12/bailout-to...16-trillion-dollars/

What are the government concerned about? Food stamp fraud:

m.lubbockonline.com/business/2012-05-26/...oncerns-govt-offices
Overall, food stamp fraud costs taxpayers about $750 million a year, or 1 percent of the $75 billion program that makes up the bulk of the department’s total budget for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program.
$750 million is approximately 1/40,000th of $29 trillion.

It's an outrage, isn't it? How dare John Q. Public want to eat when there's mansions, yachts and snuff films for poor, nearly broke bankers to buy!! :aargh:

This is $90,000. However, per taxpayer:

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Progressivity_in_U...tax#Tax_distribution
As of 2007, there are about 138 million taxpayers in the United States.

...this would equate to $195,000 per taxpayer. My favourite statistic about the US, though is...

Unfunded

I assume you mean interest rate. Sorry, I'm not being pedantic! According to this document:

www.dfi.wa.gov/consumers/interest_rates_law.htm

...it's currently 12%. It currently stands at 0.25%:

www.tradingeconomics.com/united-states/interest-rate

I don't know too much about US interest rates, but I heard an economist on British radio stating that he believed interest rates in the UK would stay at their currently historically low level for the foreseeable future; ie. years not months. I would suggest this is also highly likely in the US, as they've followed almost the exact same pattern as the UK.

What should trouble people is the length of time that interest rates have sat that low, yet wages remain low and banks are still not loaning out money and they're still refusing to pass on savings etc.

Governments are borrowing fantastic sums from central banks and then giving it to high st banks who in turn give it back to the central banks...and this has carried on for several years now lol :)
I've yet to see a single news broadcast on MSM mentioning this simple fact and it IS a fact and it IS happening. Its like pass the stupid parcel ffs :/

Nor have I seen any mainstream source ever mention the fact that the 'economy' will never conceivably recover, the debt will never be repaid legitimately, and the liabilities are completely unfundable. The US debt ceiling will be reached again, probably this year, and all the media will just have a jolly little conversation about it as if it's no big deal. The US is flat fucking broke. The UK is even more broke. They're not going to recover. 'Growth' of 0.3% or something is not going to cover it! Nor are any more bailouts, restructuring or bond issuing. When is this going to be acknowledged?

I think the key thing thats missing from the media is how the monetary system works at its most basic level.

ie. central banks loan money at interest to govts in return for bonds which have a set date of repayment AT INTEREST, people need to learn that their so called illustrious leaders do NOT have the power to print money. Private central banks do...

Not only that but we are currently borrowing money to pay for the stupidity of banks who have been playing silly buggers with various financial 'instruments' that are made up silliness that no-one in their right mind ever could or would trade.
These 'instruments' have a 'value' of tens of trillions perhaps even QUADRILLIONS if some rumours are to be believed.

The money for them was borrowed (after fractional reserves ran out at high st banks) from central banks again!

So on and on this cycle continues of ever increasing govt debt until eventually they can't pay their bonds (which is a mathematical CERTAINTY)...SO WHY THE HELL DO THEY CARRY ON DOING IT!?

As far as I can honestly see from what I have seen over the past few years, our leaders really ARE that stupid, they really ARE that uninformed and delusional.

Most of joe public are completely unaware and many politicians come from that same public.

It is sad, but imho we are merely witnessing the inevitable result of an average world IQ of around 100 or less....

not to mention taxpayers also fund everything the govt does.
so its like 200k usd per taxpayer, now how much is, say 75*365?

nono, i didnt mean interest rate, i meant inflation rate.

the eu has set its limit at 2percent yearly maximum.

means, when goods become more expensive, then the price control tool is alowing bit inflation.
the set maximum is now 2percent.

if they raised that to 5%, the debt would diminish by itself in couple decades.

According to this article:

www.reuters.com/article/2012/01/25/us-us...dUSTRE80O25C20120125

The Fed has set the US rate at 2% as well.

I'm sure in the medium-term we will see very high inflation in the US. It's either that or defaulting, and I can't see the political establishment voluntarily defaulting. We've seen over 5% inflation in the UK very recently.
