IPCC Admits Its Past Reports Were Junk

On June 27, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) issued a statement saying it had "complete[d] the process of implementation of a set of recommendations issued in August 2010 by the InterAcademy Council (IAC), the group created by the world's science academies to provide advice to international bodies."

Hidden behind this seemingly routine update on bureaucratic processes is an astonishing and entirely unreported story. The IPCC is the world's most prominent source of alarmist predictions and claims about man-made global warming. Its four reports (a fifth report is scheduled for release in various parts in 2013 and 2014) are cited by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in the U.S. and by national academies of science around the world as "proof" that the global warming of the past five or so decades was both man-made and evidence of a mounting crisis.

If the IPCC's reports were flawed, as a many global warming "skeptics" have long claimed, then the scientific footing of the man-made global warming movement -- the environmental movement's "mother of all environmental scares" -- is undermined. The Obama administration's war on coal may be unnecessary. Billions of dollars in subsidies to solar and wind may have been wasted. Trillions of dollars of personal income may have been squandered worldwide in campaigns to "fix" a problem that didn't really exist.

Thank you for posting this. If you look at this issue in depth, and the history of the IPCC, why it was set up in the first place, who's been involved, and all of the background to their reports, their conduct in general, and so forth, it's incredible that anyone pays any attention to them at all. Instead, they're considered an 'authority' on 'climate change'.

I think the fundamental issue is the corruption and perversion of science and research generally. Genuine researchers who actually seek real answers and solutions can't secure funding unless they subscribe to the political and corporate agenda. If they present data which contradicts or challenges the official policies or goals they receive zero funding. The obvious result is a total failure in legitimate scientific disclosure. Fortunately there are members of the scientific and research communities who are prepared to blow the whistle on some of the major scandals, lies and fraudulent theories which get presented as fact, by the corporations and government agencies. The problem is that even if they can overcome the political and financial constraints they often have difficulty getting their information published in any media and often get embroiled in legal battles. In addition to that the education system is also busy selling the myths and lies that the political system dictates as fact and required learning in the curriculum, with no alternative views or research presented.

If the areas of science and research are to regain any credibility the whole nature of funding needs to be reassessed and a total separation from political and corporate influence imposed.

The IPCC is an extreme example of how the corporate and political system control, manipulate and totally dominate fields of research, as well as the flow of information through out the main stream media, scientific journals and the education system.
