This whole poll-slash-consensus shit is driving me mad.

How about we do a poll and see if we can agree to disagree and then another one to see whether the
majority would rather just hand major decisions over to the mods and the members get no say unless it is a simple thing that
doesn't result in arguments, name calling, and down right rude behavior.

You've lost me on a couple of points here, Stars.
Firstly, it's a
debate re
what majority should be deemd acceptable to (hypothetically) decide a poll result.
Secondly, there's only been good-humoured banter in the thread - no down right rude behaviour (unless I've missed it).
Point taken... however I don't call name calling good-humoured banter... I tend to call it rude when applied in a serious discussion and/or debate. But alas, it could just me as of late, I can't stand arguing or even heated debates recently (over sensitive for varying reasons lately).
I really do think major decisions that affect the entire place should probably be left up to mods, while other things, more simpler things could do with input from members (new mods or whatnot). The major things (guest posting for example) are going to put more strain and create more work for one group of people (the mods), because they are going to have to not only "moderate" what things can be posted, but what can be tolerated and chase down people just looking to troll and so on...so it should be their decision what to do on something like that. The members here aren't going to have to do all the leg work and be in charge of taking care of everything therefore they shouldn't have a choice in the matter.
