I rarely look at the Karma score under the name and care little, but today Gilly posted that she gave me a point because she liked my description of election season in the US.

So after her kind words I saw a score and then later saw it drop quite a few points. So which petty small minded cunt hasn't got the decency or fucking guts to smite me and say so, eh?

A fuck is indeed not given about the Karma. I hardly noticed it and certainly never understood it, but when Gilly was nice enough to complimet me she drew my attention to it.

Poll it... burn the karma thus inflicting bad mojo on us or raise the karma to a platform and hope it works to our benefit

I nearly always use the +, but using the - without stating so on the thread does give you the opportunity to register your contempt for someone's comments without getting into a confrontation.

If some folk are stalking others around being peevish though, it's probably best to disempower them by removing the facility altogether.

Perhaps we could have a 'Sod you' button, alongside the 'Thank you' one?

Seriously though, it is a salient point. How do you perceive the meaning of that 'thank you' when you click the button? Is it an actual thank you to the poster for something given, or is it (most of the time anyway) just a way of saying ''I agree''?

I'd say its mostly the latter right? Just a convenient way of saying +1 without having to post...+1.

So, perhaps we should replace the thank you button with 2 new button options..... ' agree' and 'disagree' or similar.

Although I don't care about the karma and what points I have on it, I think it has, at times, been like an indicator of who is popular on this site and who is not and does rather show the cliquey nature of this forum.

The dislike of me by certain posters hasn't been shown by - smites, but in other ways that I couldn't fail to notice. Because this forum is small with few members certain things are all the more obvious. We might not have liked certain aspects of the DIF, but at least you knew what you were getting....There's not much that I trust about this place anymore and although I know there are genuine members here, I also feel there are a lot who aren't.

The SZ was supposed to be better than the DIF, but at the moment I don't think that's the case.

The forum only has a thankyou button...we cant add more buttons, its not an option, and myself or Frog, well we arent programmers so adding more buttons isnt an option tbh.

The karma system does have an option to be turned off, so it simply wont be there if it is turned off.

DG you could open a thread in chest with a poll, and when a few votes get in we can adjust to suit the result. Should the result ever swing the other way, the karma can be turned back on.

Well 'Thank you' is sometimes just a thank you - like when someone goes & finds a link for you for eg., or presents an argument very eloquently, or makes you laugh (even if you don't agree with their conclusions).
