The world championships kicked off a little while ago so I'm all excited and raring to go over the next few weeks. If I ignore any of you for any length of time in the coming days, it's because I'll be glued to a screen or hurling constant abuse at it... one of the other... and quite frankly, if it came to a choice of snooker or you lot, the balls win everytime. I'm not going to lie. It's an addiction, I can't help it.

So this is our very own snooker thread... well mine and irre's as I don't think
there's much more of you who can appreciate this more refined taste in
sport afro

At this moment in time, Mr Hasbeen Higgins is currently playing that wonderful little Chinese player Liang Wenbo, who in my opinion is going to be a massive star of the future. I would like nothing more than for him to take Higgins out in this match today but as it IS Higgins, this is highly unlikely. Bad luck in the draw on Liangs part.

Ok, let the games commence

Yes it's a sport but I don't like refering to it as such because, well, it's not like all other sports. It's skillful, refined, with standards and a dress code and a nice carpet and stuff.

And yeah, I am a nerdy snooker head

Well, er, sorry to contradict our Top Post Whore *coughs nervously* but it's more of a game than an actual sport.

I used to love it in the days of Alex Higgins and Jimmy White - two terrific talents (although, sadly, neither could hold their nerves when the pressure was on, which is what makes a Champion after all).

Now, meh, I can sort of take it or leave it. S'alright, I s'pose.

The worst was when he was leading Hendry by about 7 frames or something and he bottled it on a sitter

Yeah, but Higgins left it very late. He missed so many times, so many titles. He should have been a Championship Legend. Mind you, he was and always be a Legend of the game anyway.

Jimmy White used to have me pulling my hair out. His "trick" was often to go to the table and purposely botch a shot - what was that?: bad temper?; quitting? Fabulous player but OMG I could have boxed his ears on a thousand different occasions - or more.

He was on beta blockers throughout his playing career. No wonder he was emotionless and "controlled". He was a cheat.

Another player I used to think was a very clever player in a very clever game was him *can't think of his name no matter how I try... it'll come to me at 3a.m. when I have no one to tell* who used to look like Dracula. Welsh? Very clever. I don't know if he ever won the World Championship, but he should have.

He was a very good mentor/influence on the erratically brilliant Ronnie O'Sullivan... another mega talented, fiery player I love to watch... but too often with the temperament of Higgins and White.

You're right with it being Reardon that looks like Dracula. And agree with Alex Higgins fucking it up... but boy was he great when I was growing up.

He's what started me down this path - brilliant character.

Agree with diamond too about Hendry though he's lightened up alot in the last few years.. but as someone said, he and Davis are very similiar... never did much for me. Appreciated they where good but for me, I need the character to shine through also.

Alex Higgins
Jimmy White
Steven Mcguire
Mark Selby
Liang Wenbo
Judd Trump

and of course

Ronnie O'Sullivan

are all favourites of mine.

I touched, or rather, stroked Ronnie's hand once... *goes off into lalalala land again*
