No wonder Sean is shitting it.

Not just rodin - will be interested to see how that thread is moderated as already there are remarks there that cross a line - others don't cross a line and offer merely perspective - after last nights 'chat' I am wondering if we should as an act of kindness and in the spirit of helpfulness create a 'user manual' to help sean and the others out as to what does and does not constitute anti semitism, racism etc - we have the screenies it could comprise of said screenies with a huge red tick for 'bigot' and cross for 'perspective' - actually fuck it - give enough string and hopefully they will hang themselves.

If the DiF have been reported for hate crime - they only have themselves to blame - they were repeatedly told, implored and asked to enforce the forum rules they put up - and without any action or ability to have an open discussion they left people with little to no choice...

Sean was warned time and time again - would be interesting to see if the dif would hand over ip's.

You could argue that all that dif stuff was 'done' precisely for this reason, if you were particularly 'conspiracy' minded.

I mean, this is the natural conclusion to stuff like that, isn't it? Regardless of whether or not we all agree it's "right" or "fair".

I think people should be able to say what they feel to an extent and I am aware that there are such places that exist on the internet for that very purpose, the dif of late, seemingly being one of them. As ever with the internet, if you don't like it, don't look at it.

I think this has little to do with racism (or even anti-Jewish sentiment), to be fair though. It's more about controlling what people can talk about on the internet, though of course many will go along with it because of stories just like this.

I hope people begin to see through it though.

It seemed a very deliberate thing, a concerted effort to create the situation where the DIF became a hotbed for racism. TBH I'm not sure how they avoided the JDL hit squad for so long. It is a tried and true tactic to start the threads, and derail others with the same garbage, and then report the site as " anti semitic". It was only a matter of time before real threats to that forum would appear. I anticipated it happening at any time. it still might.

I think Sean straddled a line of "Let them do it as long as it stays civil -- look at the page views! Look at the post counts! Look at the advertising revenue..." And it got out of hand. I see gonzo has been banned, and the non stop BS threads have really subsided. But the damage has been done. I chose to stay and argue with those guys, and posted a thread about how and why neo nazi's are a joke. Around that time, I started to think that the mods were allowing this, and possibly sympathetic to these guys. I'm still not sure....

It almost completely ruined my experience there, but there are still some good topics and posters there, and that's all I really care about anyway. I've deleted every PM I have, and un-friended some people who had requested me previously. I used to have rodin and hadaka jimmy on my list.... and I didn't even remember hadaka asking me. rodin was from way back, and prior to the non stop JEW threads. But I really didn't want people looking at my profile and seeing those names on there, so I got rid of them. tiny int and edelweiss pirate too.... I thought tinyint was fine until a few months ago....

Anyway, it's al under the bridge now. This place is a welcome addition to my online experience.

I was talking about free speech with the other half a few nights ago - his conclusion was that we should all have the right to free speech but recognise that it comes with responsibility - say what you want but don't be a dick was basically what he said - I agree - particularly in public spaces - because once it is in a public space it infringes on others rights - its getting the balance right - a good starting point is trust and respect - if you trust others are not out to cause offense for offense sake - but may not be able to articulate their point as well as others may be able to, and there is a respect there which allows a discussion not to become aggressive and deliberately hurtful then anything can be talked about more or less.

I think I've made my stance on this one fairly clear but in case...

All freedoms come with responsibility, the minute we shirk those responsibilities is the minute we give the potential for "authority" to step in. You should be able to say what you want, I'm not for banning words, but that doesn't mean saying what you want to whoever you want whenever you want.

We are free to be naked, that doesn't mean we are free to do the school run in the buff.

This story is just another nail in the coffin that will once have been a platform for free speech... the internet.

As more and more of these incidents take place, people will become less and less verbal.

Ultimately, we will end up censoring ourselves.
