Chomsky probably one of the best political commentators there is. The consent thing could go further tho, under a capitalist economy greed/profit is not only accepted but encouraged. Now this is not necessarily a bad thing in its self, it gives rise to the entrepreneur and the self made businessman. the problem lies in monopoly, as the bigger, more resources a corporation has the more in can not only invest in research, but can afford to make a loss (or funnel losses through another company) before a project takes off. up to 50 years ago all inventions, medicine and break throughs were by individual inventors not corporations. This individual success tho is essential to capitalist politics, if anything so the masses to support it, ie although you may not be the most well of, there is possibility that you could be or at least you can dream of it, ie the American dream (death of a sales man sums that one up pretty well tho). celebrity culture is part of the propaganda, ie even , for the most part, talentless people can make it.
specifically regarding corporate person hood tho, yes the owners directors should have more accountability but in reality this is near imposable ie i could buy $100 dollars of shares through a broker, should i be accountable for the decisions made which i know nothing about? and although ignorance of the law is no excuse, in a court it must be established that you intended to act unlawfully in order to be liable, hence Murdoch "plausible" deniability over phone hacking. it might also be worth pointing out that corporation person hood status is known as a legal fiction, ie something that is known to be false is taken as fact for the purposes of applying the law.
The privatization of major industry will always give rise to the situations described by Chomsky (i think hes an anarchist) in comes socialism/ communism, that nationalized everything, which brought with it its own host of problems with disastrous results.mainly that marxist theory is more a critique of capitalist economics as opposed to a working solution. there needs to be a middle ground.
