Technology always leaves a footprint. Is it correct the police should be able to access it ....maybe, peodophiles seem to use the internet rampantly and I think anything that can be done to shut this aspect down should be used

If I was a spy or a terrorist I certainly wouldn't be using mobile phones and email because it's pretty obvious it can be accessed by anyone with enough knowledge.

I used to think text messages were just between the sender and the receiver then about 4 years ago I lost a phone number and contacted my phone company to see if it was possible to find the number and they sent me a 5 page printout that had every text I'd sent in the last six months

They just can't do enough in the way of trying to find out who ius saying what. Using the "potential" of crime to snoop on what will wind up being every person making a phone call. They have sensors that look for key words. The domestic terrorist watchdogs in the US have an asinine list of words that they look for in emails and on phone convos. Some of them don't amount to much, just saying police and state in the same sentence amounts to the term "police state" in their minds, and that's a no no phrase.
