More on how the fracking issue is being ''spun''.

Just contrast the B ullshit B roadcasting C ompany - check out the imagery and slant

Fracking under homes could be allowed without permission
Fracking - or hydraulic fracturing - is a technique in which water and chemicals are pumped into shale rock at high pressure to extract gas.

Currently operators need to ask homeowners before they drill under their land, but they have a right to appeal by law if an agreement cannot be reached.

"There is an existing legal route by which operators can apply for access where this can't be negotiated. We're currently considering whether this existing route is fit for purpose," said a spokesperson for the Department of Energy and Climate Change.

Shale gas exploration typically involves drilling down vertically and out horizontally, often for more than a mile.

www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-25914066

with a different reporting style

UK Fracking could be allowed under people’s homes without their consent
While compensation is often only a minimal amount, less than £100, companies fear that court proceedings could be costly and drawn out by years of appeals. They have been lobbying the government to change the law.

Unsurprisingly, given how close the government and the energy companies are on shale gas, the Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) has confirmed they are looking at whether the current laws are “fit for purpose.”
Fracking or hydraulic fracturing involves pumping water, sand and chemicals down a well at high pressure to fracture rocks and then extract the gas trapped within them.It has been linked to health and environmental damage in some US states where it is extensive.
Ian Crane, a former oil executive, who is now a campaigner against fracking, explained to RT the extreme dangers that shale gas exploration poses to a densely populated country like the UK.

“We’ve seen the effects in places like Colorado and southern Queensland in Australia. When the population density of the UK is 20 times that of Colorado and 100 times that of Queensland, I would simply implore people to do a bit of research and look at the damage and the contamination that has been wreaked in these locations around the world,” he said.

He also pointed out that of the four wells drilled in the UK, seismic events have occurred at two of them, and there is a very real chance that people in areas where fracking is taking place will no longer have access to safe and clean water.
Comments (29)

Descriptions of hydraulic fracturing in the media state that water, chemicals and sand are injected at high pressures into the horizontal drilling to split the rock and allow the gas and oil to migrate to the vertical drilling for recovery. Such media descriptions often omit the use of underground explosions to create increased rock splitting and pressure to facilitate the migration of the fuel. Shaped explosive charges are used, made of depleted uranium. Byproducts of fracking are radioactive and toxic water. disposal of this water is pumping it back underground. Such fouling of our planet is beyond cleanup. Wake Up.

Unless there is totally independent supervision of Fracking it will be an environmental disaster. ...

Unfortunately any true independent assessors have been shut off as the truth is far too unpalatable to be of any support to the lemming like stampede to destruction, economically and environmentally.

Our local MP is the one responsible for fracking. He finds it a right hoot. I think it's the greatest threat to people living in the countryside ever, and could make huge swathes of it unlivable - forever

He's reassured the locals that we won't have fracking here (for now) which is pretty telling about what he really knows about it imo.

Over in the US, in places like New York state, where the corporations are wanting to frack in the Delaware River Valley & near reservoirs that provide drinking water to millions, numerous local townships have successfully banned or voted for moratoriums.

Fracking has been blocked lately in a lot of places due to local grassroots measures. On a local level people have created petitions, held town meetings, hearings, put forth voting propositions to ban or have moratoriums, demanded that the health effects be studied first etc and have had success. Further good news - the new mayor of NYC has come out as opposed to it.

The organization, Catskill Mountain Keeper, has been very helpful in stopping fracking. "It is a grassroots advocacy organization dedicated to protecting and preserving the unique and irreplaceable Catskill Region of New York State. We are equally committed to vigorously fighting threats to our region and pursuing opportunities for sustainable growth. We are focused on maintaining our region’s capacity to provide pure unfiltered water to over 17 million people, continue as an important foodshed providing local healthy food to the entire NY metro area and protecting our authentic wilderness so that it can be enjoyed by all."

Here is a link to their site - some of the info will likely apply to the fracking situation in the UK.

Fracking: Total invests £30m in controversial shale sector
"FRENCH energy giant Total has today announced plans to invest in Britain's shale gas sector, a deal believed to be worth £30m.
The company has bought a 40 per cent stake in two exploration licences in the Gainsborough Trough, a geological basin in Lincolnshire, east England and will help fund the site's exploration programme. But environmental campaigners have attacked the plans, accusing the UK government of ignoring the risks of fracking, the process used to extract gas from shale rock beneath the ground."
www.theweek.co.uk/uk-news/fracking/56818...versial-shale-sector

Leon Brittan, Baron Brittan of Spennithorne
He is Vice-Chairman of UBS AG Investment Bank, non-executive director of Unilever and member of the international advisory committee for Total. In August 2010, Brittan returned to the government under the Conservative-Liberal coalition acting as a trade advisor
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leon_Brittan

Leon Brittan was also Home Secretary when MP Geoffrey Dickens passed him a hugh paedophile dossier in 1983. He does not remember receiving it, it cannot now be located and he appears to have taken no action at the time.

Leon Brittan was also named on the Mary Moss lists regarding the Elm Guest House where children were allegedly abused in 1982.

Leon Brittan also resigned as Trade and Industry Secretary in January 1986, over the Westland affair, was knighted in 1989 and resigned with the rest of the Santer Commission in 1999 amid accusations of fraud.
During his time as Vice-President of the European Commission, one subsequently prominent member of his official office was Nick Clegg, currently leader of the Liberal Democrats and Deputy Prime Minister.

Can't quite put my finger on why I don't like this bloke.
