Under normal circumstances I would agree with you, dawn.

Sadly, even though you never intended it to be, it ended up as a slanging match thread with a lot of shit being tossed about. Not only am I glad it was killed but I'm doubly pleased it has been removed so no-one can re-read through it and pick at old scabs in other threads.

Now, give me a hug and I'll put the kettle on.

@dawn, So what you'd like to see the forum do is:- don't ban/suspend people who are flinging shit all around the place and don't clear up the shit after them?
If you have any issues with the forum or it's members, for a speedier response, rather than pressing the report button, please post them here: sanctumzone.co.uk/forum/Forum-Projects--...scussion-thread.html

Normally I would also agree that deleting threads is uncool.
The odd post may require deletion occasionally, granted but in this instance:

A: Bats permanently deleted it in error. It happens.

B: The thread had become a sling-shit fest and yes, I played a part in that too, when my buttons were pushed.
If someone had decided to naughty-step me for that I would have understood.
Actually, I kinda did it myself, I've taken a step back the last couple of days.
Watching another poster hit meltdown and lose perspective was a bit of a caution.

C: The mod/facilitator/God role isn't an easy one.
Once people have been elected to the gig I strongly believe we allow them to get on with it.
We may suggest and offer advice at times but on the very rare occasions when someone really does get carried away with themselves I reckon we could get a handle on it.

This really could be an outstanding wee group if we could all just ease up on the micro-managing and finger-pointy stuff.

We won't change the world but we can potentially have an effect on each other.
Let's try and make that as positive as possible.
If that leads to accusations of nicey-nice etc, fuck 'em. I can live with that. :)

p.s.
yer all dicks!

This is why in my opinion, member run forums, that lack strong but fair top down moderation don't work. You can't rely on people to moderate themselves, and if you're on a tight knit forum like this a lot of tongue biting and "I'd best not say anything" situations arise... sometimes things come to a head and boil over. That's when shit gets thrown around. Hell is eternity trapped in a room with your friends springs to mind.
You have to be less personal as well, try to be more business like and take emotions out of it. Footballers don't referee themselves. And I can't imagine being called a cunt by a mod on the DIF :chuckle:

I'm glad the thread was deleted btw, it was the right course of action.

I agree with Feather. Just couldn't be arsed typing it! :D

We voted for mods, they're good 'uns, so let them moderate I say.

Dicks is it - come to the vent room & I'll fight you! I tend to bite & hit below the belt, just so you know.

*Edit* I didn't intend for that to sound like I bite below the belt btw - just to be clear.

I contend the term "top-down moderation" does not apply to this group and is misleading.

The first line of moderation is and always should be ourselves.
We have elected a few individuals we trust to pick up the slack on the occasions when we dropped it.
People are free and encouraged to contribute ideas for general moderation.
The group was established by posters, for posters and is currently 'administered' by posters.
All volunteers, some even subsidise the facility.

No-ones wage, traffic bonus, company promotion or product promotion depends upon the success or failure of this endeavour.

SZ is poster run.
But it is impractical in any situation to consult with or reach agreement on every running detail, so we trust a few peeps to do that for us.
Nothing much "top-down" I can see in that.

Just sayin' :)

Yeah I don't mind doing all the graft on your behalf!
Should I now get you a coffee and file your nails while I'm at it?!

*Too late, your filth has been reported to tptb. I'm shocked and appaled at your lewd displays particularly towards an innocent and impressionable member like myself.

What I mean by top down, is mainly mods being able to make a decision if necessary. Also when "bringing someone to task" to do it in less aggressive ways. I don't see anything wrong with a friendly mod note on a thread if things go a bit dodgy.
I will be taking things to PM in future if a disagreement arises. As long as all parties concerned keep things off threads.
