There's nowt wrong with greggs...lemme tell ya, when you've been living in Ireland for 5 years you start to get some serious hankering for decent grub.

God help me when I get back (if I ever do), you'll find me sat in a pub downing a dozen pints of boddingtons and a massive gert block of wensleydale cheese with a side plate of proper chips and mushy peas and curry f*cking sauce :D

I used to practically live off binned food at one point in my life. The bloke with the poshest sandwich shop in town (was on Kings St. doesn't exist anymore) would leave us bin bags full of butties, salads etc. McD's were notoriously defensive of their rubbish, possibly because we'd regularly take arm fulls of burgers and distribute them to people on their way in for free :D

@andyh, I've been back to Manchester once since I left and ate like a bastard! Normally I have one 'proper' meal a day, that week I thought nowt of having a carvery dinner then eat all you can Chinese for tea.

It was a huge success....there were long queues out the doors from the minute it opened till closing time.

Greggs closed it down. Why?

I'll bet they didn't have the gumption to compare how much they were saving by not binning day old stock, the numpties!

And another thing about Greggs - they judge whether an area's well off or not by whether there are any pound shops in the vicinity. Where there are, they do special offers that they don't do in other branches. There are about 5 greggs within a 3 mile radius of Preston centre - some do the offers & some don't.

@Gilly, is Greggs franchised? Seem to remember being told this was why they have various offers at different shops, although TBH your reasoning unfortunately seems the most likely.

Can't say as I do remember a Gregg's in Rusholme...but I'd be more likely to be looking for a shwarma than a steak bake in Rusholme!

Is Greggs a franchise?

Despite its popularity in the UK, Greggs does not currently offer any franchise opportunities.

Greggs is the leading bakery retailer, with all 1500+ shops are owned and operated by the company. Greggs shops are found on the UK’s high streets, local shopping centres, airports, business parks, universities etc; locations where people live, work and play.

To summarise there are no Greggs franchise opportunities available in the UK. Other food franchises are available.

And no doubt the former Greggs is now either a curry house, a kebab house, or one of those sari dress shops.

Rusholme has changed a lot over the years. Can't pinpoint exactly the point in time when this Greggs was operating, but it was around the late 80's, or possibly the early 90's.
