Jews don't eat pork , muslims don't eat pork , some other eastern cultures don't eat pork


Why?

what is wrong with pork ...........I like pork but sometimes I do think 'well were these guys all onto something and pork is evil'

I have heard pork is people ......but surely that's nuts because they are pigs not people

I've heard that too dawn. That pork is the closest thing to human meat besides actually eating a human because they have basically the same physiology as we do. Strange shit....

Perhaps pigs are considered sacred by some religions much like the cow is in Hindu? No idea,but it makes me hungry for some pork chops,that's for sure.

Pigs are very human, the big fat greedy fuckers are always at the trough, pushing the little weaker ones out of the way.

It's because they eat shit or anything else you give em.

I've seen goats ,chickens,cows and horses eat shit

But no religion is yet calling them evil!

In the 19th and early 20th century everyone used to drink beer, there was a brewery on every corner.

The water wasn't safe to drink then, but alcohol has a ph-level that doesn't allow the beasties to propogate.

Dawn, I dunno I do not have a problem with it, I am very particular though about some parts. It may be a cultural thing, too. In Korea, Vietnam and Thailand, lots of pork is consumed. They love the feet and most all the parts many will not eat , like southern soul food cooking. Then in India, they do not consume beef, sacred animal and all. I just find it fascinating what other cultures believe and their edibles.

And like someone said, other farm animals have been known to eat unsavory things ...

Pigs are seen as being a bit dirty, largely due to their need to wallow. They don't have sweat glands, so that's how they regulate temperature. Similarly, some religions will not eat some seafood. Namely the bottom feeding variety (Shrimp, Lobster, crab, oysters, muscles, etc). They're considered lessor forms of life. It might be a case of "You are what you eat"?

I was talking to a friend of mine who has a home in Turkey and spends a few months each year there...he tells me that the pork thing is due to the crusade times when pigs were seen to be eating the dead bodies after battles etc and this was the driving force behind not eating pork...not sure if this is the case but kinda makes sense....but not sure how true it is.

besides how many pigs where there in the middle east ? it may have been just bigitory of the barbarian eating habits as well

Cats can't eat pork because they don't digest it properly, so maybe it is hard to digest too. Probably so.

I worked with an Armenian who wouldn't eat shellfish. He said that lobsters were the cockroaches of the sea.

Another time I worked for Jewish man and he had me go fetch him a burger. When I got to the place, I thought that he would probably like cheese on it too, so I got him a cheeseburger. I gave it to him and walked out of the office. Minutes later I heard him spitting it in the trash can, but he never said anything, but another secretary explained to me that they won't eat cheese with beef, because it comes from the same animal.

While a prohibition/taboo with some foodstuffs seems odd behaviour, when one steps outside of ones own culture we see that sucj things can be quite arbitary;

Horse meat is eaten in Italy and Japan where I lived (in japan sometimes raw too). It's tasty.
I have also eaten octopus (yummy), eel (yummy) and locusts or "inago" (yuck).

Conversley the Japanese are horrified that we eat rabbit in much the same way that they are about Koreans eating dogs.

As for why Christians don't have such issues:

The humble porker has for many years been one of natures dustbins and many places in india still use them for disposing of human waste and then their waste is added to the ground by their constant churning and looking for morsals, they clear ground very effectively prior to it being used by us for growing our food.
