Hi Lesley! I feel your pain re the insomnia - I have it something chronic myself! Well done though for giving up the fags - got to be worth it in the long run! :)

I've never bought prescription meds online, only vitamins & supplements. I've had Zopiclone from the doc, and I have to say that although they worked, I felt dreadful the next day.

I've found Nytol to be an excellent OTC sleep preparation!

Best of luck!

How are you these days Mandy? Haven't seen you in ages. :)

Insomnia is tiresome isn't it. Zopiclone works really well for me though. I get a really good night's sleep and wake up refreshed the next day. I've never tried Nytol, but some otc sleep aids are antihystamines and they turn me into a zombie the following day.

Am not too bad at the mo, thanks Lesley! Sorry I've not been about much - I've been posting updates in the "sorry" thread in the rant room!

It's a shame your doc won't prescribe Zopiclone, seeing as it works so well for you! I found it made me feel awful. It's amazing how meds can affect one person in a certain way but not another!

Hi Mandy, sorry for taking ages to reply. How are you doing at the moment? What was the snow like in your neck of the woods? It's been bad here in the Forest.

I think the doc is just worried about the zopiclone being habit forming.

Btw, does anyone know if it's possible to buy barbiturates online?

It is, in that there are sites that advertise them for sale, but I seriously wouldn't go there because its very likely you'll get ripped. Sites that advertise the 'hard stuff' (morphine, oxycontin, barbs etc) for sale are dodgy

Have you heard of etizolam Lesley? Its a very effective (and enjoyable) drug of the benzodiazepine family that, because its molecular structure is slightly different from standard benzo's, is unscheduled (ie completely legal) in the UK .

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Etizolam

Etizolam is easily available online as a 'research chemical', and United Pharmacies used to sell it as medicine up until very recently....I think their sister company still does....I'll see if I can find the link later.

Thanks DG. :)

I had some Mogadon years ago from the doc. It was during one of my worst periods of panic attacks and insomnia. They were the best things I've ever had for sleep. I'd take one and fall asleep within 15 mins - for a full 8 hours. I always thought they must have been barbiturates, but I just Googled Mogadon and found out it's Nitrazepam - a benzo. So, that Etizolam might well be good for desperate times!

Benzo's are far more effective than zopiclone, but getting a doctor to prescribe benzo's these days is nigh impossible - they just won't.

Zopiclone was brought in as a supposedly safer/less addictive substitute, but its turning out to be just as addictive it seems.

There was talk of maybe having some clonazepam if the insomnia gets worse. I don't have zopiclone all the time, I get 28 pills every 3 to 4 months, but the doc has recently decided that natural methods are best. He is right of course, but sometimes it's really handy to have a bit of help!

I've built up a tolerance to zopiclone really quickly though. More worrying is the fact that I do stuff and don't remember. The last lot I got from the GP, I took one, but must have got up during the night and taken another 4 pills. There were 4 missing, but I have no recollection of taking them. Zolpidem makes me really irritable the next day, but it seems stronger. People deffo get addicted to zopiclone.

I hear ya regarding the zop tolerance....and the amnesia side effects too - especially if you take them with alcohol, even small amounts! :O

Personally, I think benzodiazepines are the better and safer option - as long as you use them wisely and sparingly then there should be no problems.

The real reason doctors won't prescribe benzo's anymore is because back in the 60's and 70's they completely fucked up, handing em out like smarties, not knowing or understanding what the addictive properties of them are.

Even without alcohol the amnesia is meant to be pretty common. On the other hand, insomnia and sleep deprivation is no joke!

There's been stuff in the news recently about the dangers of painkillers and sleeping pills and their addictive qualities. However, given the choice of misery from chronic pain or insomnia and addiction, why not just take the pills and have a better quality of life? We're not here for very long, so we might as well make out stay a happier one!
