Are people on forums like this 'including myself' naturally more cynical?
Is the purpose of nature just the advancement and development of life?
I realize it all has alot to do with a combination of factors,
The short answer to these questions is, I don't know. I can speculate, but as you've pointed out, one person's 'hell' is another person's paradise. What works for me, doesn't work for others. I really wish I understood the purpose of life, because I don't like the answers currently given. They don't make an ounce of sense for me. "You're here to serve god", "You're the universe experiencing itself", "We're just kind of here, there is no purpose to it."
For starters, I'm not here to serve any 'god'. The last time I checked I wasn't a butler, a neo-serf maybe, but not a butler. I really hope I'm not the universe experiencing itself. The implications of that are so mind-numbingly stupid, that I think would have a permanent hand print on my face from the most epic facepalm ever conceived. Talk about the ultimate form of vanity. What's worse is that would imply the Universe allows itself to abuse itself. Humans are pretty shitty to one another. While I admire and respect Science, the explanation of life is little more than them grasping at straws. You can look at theoretical models, string theory, and biology all you want, but there is no solid explanation as to why life and conscious beings even exist. Given the odds, we shouldn't even be here, let alone forming civilizations.
