I found a much smaller version of that in a hollow pillar at the edge of my patio. At one time, large, strange spiders inhabited it - there was one about half the size of my palm that was black, with bright green markings on it. Never seen owt like it before or since.

Then last time I looked, the spiders seemed to have been evicted and there was this intricate sand sculpture where the ants had excavated sand from under the patio slabs.

Hugely interesting topic Hive mind society. Can it be considered that the colony itself is the organism? That the individual ant is really no more than a cell? It appears that within the colony there are no family/friend attachments and that the individual is never missed. True Borg.

Is this where we are headed?

Certainly the ants show us what can be achieved when individuality is surrendered to the whole.

At about 5mins in a bear discovers a bees nest full of honey & decides to have it... it's pretty funny watching the bear under attack!
Then the ants move in...

An ant can carry 100 x its body weight whilst upside down on a glass surface!
