I do a bit of genealogy and I've found out bits and pieces about my ancestors, after my granny and grandads I never met or knew anything about the others, they were just folks. My dad's line pretty much pure Harris and Lewis island folks, my mothers side back a few generations, mostly from Yorkshire.
