I don't know much about this situation,I just have one question as a observer
How can this fellow, who has pissed off and is wanted by some very serious types, even make it this far,to be in a position that potentially he can have freedom, was he free to go wherever he wanted and then they cornered him or what?
Even if they go in and get him,he was still able to put himself in this position I don't understand this
If it were not for Wikileaks we'd know a damn sight less about a multitude of situations Rick.

Assange has realised his best protection is to be high profile in the media.
That makes it far more difficult for them to take him out or disappear him.
If he were just some faceless anonymous geek he'd be gone by now and no-one would have a clue or be too interested.

If you had to protect someone the best way would be to make them visible, contrary to popular thought in my opinion because unless a person gets whacked by a radical person or sniper, most people won't openly attack a person surrounded by police and media.

The end result of any situation really shows the real motive of a situation, excluding any extreme action as mentioned above, example if you were being chased by five mean people, would you run down a lonely alley,or go into the middle of a crowd of people, and try to figure a safe way out

The end result of this situation will probably be the end of this man's life. It has already been the end of his reputation. That shows the real motivation of many, both high up in the miltary and government and on lowly boards on the tinterwebz such as this.

You are very correct in your thinking, if that was the actual motive his end,but if there is another motive we shall see it play out

I do remember a number of people at another place insisting that Assange must be a 'gatekeeper' etc because the leaks to date hadn't been particularly harmful to Israel. And I suppose there's always the possibility that this is all an elaborate charade while the PTB are sneakily doing something else. But in all honesty there comes a time when seeing 'inside jobs' in absolutely everything just keeps people in a permanent state of paralysis, which benefits the PTB anyway, and you have to make choices about which is the likelier possibility.

The people running the US quite clearly do want Assange and Wikileaks taken out of the equation. And generally what these guys want is against our own interests.

I've never been to convinced by those angles to be honest.
It's a kinda easy speculation to offer on a forum that makes you look knowledgeable without fear of being found out.
Why bother to open the gate at all? Complete ignorance of the masses is a far better control method. See North Korea for example.

To Rick I would add that as well as making himself a public figure to protect himself Assange also has some money it would seem. This allows him lawyers etc which I think have helped him a little more than if you or I were wanted by the establishment. Of course lawyers don`t help you if you are assassinated but since they have tried to destroy his reputation and attack him through the legal system it has of course been a benefit that he has some money. Of course right now much of his defense is in the public court. It would seem that if nobody had cared then maybe they would have just gone into the embassy and walked him out. I think they wanted Ecuador to be intimidated by the police presence. I saw on the Independent facebook page that people were saying how Ecuador has a bad record with journalists and so of course Wikileaks was attacked as if Assange had to get asylum from some perfect nation(that does not exist) in order to avoid scrutiny. Alex Jones does not generally as far as I have seen get behind people who are "left wing" because he really likes to say "left right paradigm".

Well I would like to see something that connects Assange to the left wing.

I do know that Alex Jones was a member and a candidate for the Republican Party

Absolutely, just as Makow says libertarians are communists

I really do wish people could understand this so so soooo simple thing.
Libertarians do not want any governance and rules and regulations no matter whether they come from a left wingnut or a right wingnut or a Hitler with only one nut :D

Thanks to everyone for the updates, I've been catching up via RT for the last couple of days.

Meanwhile I leave you these:

Diplomatic cables reveal Australia expects U.S. to charge Julian Assange - informationclearinghouse.info

Declassified diplomatic cables from Australia’s embassy in Washington D.C., obtained through freedom of information requests filed by The Sydney Morning Herald, reveal that Australian officials have already begun laying the groundwork for the U.S. to pursue charges against WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange.

The cables show that diplomats in Assange’s home country anticipate receipt of an extradition request for Assange once a secret U.S. grand jury wraps up its investigation. They expect it so fully that embassy staff even reached out to U.S. officials for “early advice” on the potential indictment and extradition request.

The American response was redacted, the paper noted, “on the grounds that disclosure could ’cause damage to the international relations of the Commonwealth.’” Other material blacked out of the cables pertains to the prosecution of Pvt. Bradley Manning, who U.S. military prosecutors say participated in a conspiracy with WikiLeaks to steal and publish classified information [...]

Over 100 veterans occupy Obamas election headquarters in Oakland CA in order to protest calling for the release of Bradley Manning.

12 have been arrested.

No mention of this on the BBC
